The Giráldez lab focuses on the study of ion channels, which are proteins in the cell membrane that allow ions to pass across the cellular membrane, hence controlling cellular excitability.

Using a multidisciplinary approach (genetics, molecular biology, advance microscopy techniques and electrophysiology), the lab aims to understand the basis of some neurological diseases that are precisely associated to defects in ion channel function.
