Research Interests

The major research interest of the Chattopadhyay group is centered on membrane and receptor biology using a variety of  biophysical,  biochemical  and  cell biological approaches.  Fluorescence-based spectroscopic and microscopic approaches are extensively used in our laboratory. Areas of focus include:

  • Membrane Organization and Dynamics using the Wavelength-Selective Fluorescence Approach
  • Organization, Dynamics and Lipid-protein Interactions of the Serotonin1A Receptor: Implications in Health and Disease
  • Monitoring Organization and Dynamics of the Serotonin1A Receptor in Live Cells utilizing Dynamic Fluorescence Microscopy (FRAP/FCS/SPT)
  • Role of Membrane Cholesterol and the Actin Cytoskeleton in Leishmaniasis
  • Novel Organization of Cholesterol in Membranes at Low Concentrations:  Effects of Curvature Stress and Membrane Thickness
