The overall goal of the Trebak laboratory is to investigate the activation mechanisms of ion channels and their contribution to pathophysiology using animal models of disease. The lab’s work is centered on the role of STIM/Orai Ca2+ channels and Transient Receptor Potential (TRP) cation channels in the processes of survival, proliferation and migration in cancer and pathological remodeling of airways and vessels. The Trebak lab’s in vivo studies are complemented by the use of a variety of molecular, biochemical, biophysical and imaging techniques to gain mechanistic insights into regulation of these ion channels by various signaling pathways under native conditions of expression and the effector proteins and transcription factors that are activated downstream of these calcium entry channels.
