Congratulations to Dr. Walter Boron and Dr. Rossana Occhipinti
March 8, 2023

Dr. Boron and Dr. Occhipinti are part of a six person investigative team that has been awarded a five-year Research Education Grant (R25) from the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney disorders.

The grant, “FAIR DOs: Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable Development of Open Simulations”, will support the development of a research education program in computational modeling of the neural regulation of transport processes by digestive and renal epithelia, as we leverage teaching structures at Case Western Reserve University, as well as Stimulating Peripheral Activity to Relieve Conditions (SPARC)-generated resources.

The ultimate goal of the program is to train the next generation of researchers and clinicians in the use and development of FAIR computational models, thereby promoting a spirit of openness and collegiality within the NIDDK-funded research community.

The other members of the research team are Maryann Martone, Ph.D. and Jeffrey Grethe, Ph.D. at the University of California - San Diego, and Peter Hunter, Ph.D. and Bernard deBono, M.D., Ph.D. at the University of Auckland.
