MSMP Preparation for Success

The Medical Physiology program provides many resources to help our students achieve success within the program and in their career goals. Since 2011, our alumni have experienced great success in gaining admission to professional schools across the country with 90% of our pre-medical students being accepted to MD and DO programs and nearly 100% of our pre-dental students being accepted to DMD and DDS programs.

Academic Advising & Support

The Medical Physiology program will assist and guide you every step of the way along your career path. 

  • Each student assigned to Faculty Advisor & Student Peer Advisor

  • Help with mastering the rigorous curriculum and developing your career plan

  • Guide you to other university and departmental resources

  • Faculty advisors write letters of recommendation for professional school

  • Teaching Assistants provide academic support by holding regular office hours and review sessions, providing study tips, and facilitating your learning through recitation sessions

  • Peer Advisors can provide excellent advice regarding studying and navigating the program

Professional Development

  • Annual retreat geared toward helping you prepare for the application and interview processes
  • Ongoing programming sponsored by the department to help students strategize their professional school applications

  • Recruiting visits from professional schools and programs

  • Facilitate workshops on the application process, writing a personal statement, preparing you for mock interviews, and other special seminars.

Collaborative Learning Community

  • Our philosophy is that students should work together both inside and outside the classroom. Teamwork and collaboration are tenets of the program.

  • Students have formed study, volunteer, and social groups.

  • Support each other in planning their careers, preparing for the MCAT, applying to professional programs, preparing for interviews, and celebrating each other’s success.

Enrichment Opportunities

  • While cultivating a strong GPA and preparing for the MCAT/DAT is important, you must demonstrate that you are a well-rounded candidate as an applicant to professional schools. 

  • Cleveland is a major medical and health care hub, and you can take advantage of those limitless possibilities to shadow clinicians, volunteer, conduct research, or engage in concentrated studies that will make your application stand out.  

  • Case Western Reserve University is affiliated with the Cleveland Clinic, University Hospitals, MetroHealth, and the Louis Stokes Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

  • Clinical Partnership with Cleveland Clinic's Advanced Transcription, Observation, and Medical Instruction (ATOMIC) program - a clinical scribing mentorship program
